Accessible India Campaign
The Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan) is a revolutionary initiative launched by the Government of India on December 3, 2015, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This campaign aims to create a barrier-free and inclusive environment for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) by ensuring accessibility in public infrastructure, transportation, and information & communication technology (ICT).

Objectives of the Campaign
The primary goal of the Accessible India Campaign is to empower people with disabilities by making physical spaces, transportation, and digital resources more accessible. The campaign is aligned with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, which mandates equal rights and opportunities for PwDs.
Key Components of the Campaign
1️⃣ Physical Accessibility
Making government offices, hospitals, educational institutions, airports, and railway stations wheelchair-friendly.
Installing ramps, elevators, Braille signage, and tactile pathways for ease of movement.
Ensuring accessible washrooms and parking spaces in public places.
2️⃣ Transportation Accessibility
Introducing low-floor buses, special seating, ramps, and wheelchair access in public transport.
Providing Braille instructions, audio announcements, and automated lifts at railway stations and metro stations.
Ensuring disabled-friendly airport facilities, including priority check-in counters and wheelchair assistance.
3️⃣ ICT Accessibility
Making government websites, mobile apps, and e-learning platforms compatible with screen readers and Braille displays.
Providing audiobooks, sign language interpretation, and subtitles for educational and official content.
