In a progressive step towards inclusive education, the Government of Chhattisgarh has launched a Free Hostel Scheme aimed at supporting disabled (Divyang) students pursuing higher education. The initiative ensures that students with disabilities no longer have to compromise on their academic dreams due to accommodation issues.

Under this scheme, groups of 1 to 5 students with 40% or more disability enrolled in recognized colleges, ITIs, or polytechnic institutions and living 20 km or more away from their homes are eligible for free hostel rent support.
Key Benefits:-Rent support is provided based on city category:
₹10,000 in metropolitan areas
₹7,000 in municipal council areas
₹5,000 in rural/panchayat areas
Students must submit proof of admission, disability certificate, residence certificate, and rent agreement.
The scheme encourages community-based living and group support, enabling Divyang students to focus on their studies in a comfortable and accessible environment. The Department of Social Welfare will facilitate the approval and monitoring process at the district level.
Officials believe this initiative will not only remove financial barriers but also empower students with disabilities to pursue higher education with dignity and confidence.
