To empower the differently-abled and integrate them into the mainstream, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) under the Government of India is running a free Skill Development Scheme across the country. Through this initiative, specially designed training programs are being conducted to help persons with disabilities become self-reliant.

Under this scheme, thousands of differently-abled youth are receiving free vocational training in areas such as computer operation, tailoring, mobile repairing, beauty parlour management, and more. They also receive a monthly stipend during training, along with nationally recognized certificates upon completion.
According to the National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC), most trained individuals are either getting employed in the public/private sector or starting their own businesses, thereby becoming financially independent.
Training is conducted through government-approved centers, Composite Regional Centres (CRCs), and NGOs. Interested candidates can apply online at www.nhfdc.nic.in or www.depwd.gov.in.
This scheme is proving to be a milestone in building confidence, dignity, and employment opportunities for the differently-abled across India.
